Marcos Escobar BJJ

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is well known as the most efficient grappling martial art and combat sport that focuses on ground fighting with the goal of gaining a dominant position and using joint-locks and choke-holds to force an opponent to submit.

It promotes the principle that a smaller, weaker person using leverage and proper technique can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger assailant.

It is an ideal choice for you if you are interested in self defense, a safe one on one competitive grappling sport, a new and effective way to exercise your body - releasing stress, improving stamina & flexibility.

Do not be discouraged by your age, body condition, or gender. BJJ's biggest strength is its accessibility to everyone.

Caboco is a proud affiliate of the Marcos Escobar Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Association (MEBJJA). The school has been around since 2006, being the pioneering BJJ school in Malaysia and has throughout the years produced many high-ranking practitioners, or Jiujiteiros. At Caboco, BJJ classes are conducted by Professor Escobar's brown belts, Lim Fang Han and Jin Tee.

Marcos Escobar, third degree black belt

After the 1st National Championship that happened in 1993 Jiu Jistu has started to get more popularity in Brazil, and Rio de Janeiro was "The Mecca" of this sport at that time with all big names and big clubs based in this city.

Interested to learn more about this sport and after get some more info from a friend that was a purple belt, Marcos decided to stop training water polo and kung fu and start practice Jiu Jitsu.

In march 1994, he went to a Jiu Jitsu club near his place in Rio de Janeiro, where he met Leo Castello Branco. Marcos started training everyday and dedicated his time to prepare for competitions, representing at that time Team Alliance.

At Alliance, Marcos met and trained with some of the bests such as Leo Vieira, Ricardo Vieira, Marcelo Garcia, Demian Maia, Rodrigo "Comprido" Medeiros, Fernando "Terere", Reinaldo Ribeiro and many others.

Marcos got his black belt in December 2000 from Leo Castello Branco.

He got his degree in Physical Education from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 2001 and after winning the ADCC in the same year, he suffered a motorcycle accident that put him away from the mats and changed his training rhythm for some time until full recovery.

In 2002 he got back into the competitions, winning some more titles.

In 2003, Marcos Escobar moved to Sao Paulo, where he had the opportunity to train under Leo Vieira until 2005, where he accepted an invitation to teach BJJ in KL.

In late 2011 Marcos Escobar started focussing on an MMA career choosing to train with one of the best MMA coaches in the world, Dede Pederneiras and his Nova Uniao Team, one of the best MMA academies in the world.

Fang receiving his first stripe for purple belt in 2013 from Marcos Escobar
An all around nice guy, Lim Fang Han (Fang) started training with Marcos Escobar in 2008. With the Professor having to go back and forth between Brazil and Malaysia, Fang has always been one of the strongest frontliners who makes sure that his team members and juniors keep coming back to the mats to train.

Besides attending seminars by the world's top black belts like Caio Terra, Clarke Gracie, Dean Lister and Yuri Simoes, Fang has also competed with world class Jiujiteiros at the World Jiu Jitsu Championship (Mundials) in 2013 and 2014 not just to win, but to also learn and improve his Jiu Jitsu. Teammates back home benefit from that, too, due to his generosity.

At Caboco, with BJJ still starting to pick up, Fang never lacks enthusiasm even when teaching a small class. He makes sure that his students get the best out of every second of his class.

Jin with his medal at the Bull&Tiger tournament in Singapore in 2014

Jin began his BJJ journey whilst studying in London and came back as a blue belt a couple of years ago. One of the hardest working guys on the mats, he quickly climbed up the ranks and received his brown belt from Professor Escobar late 2014.

Highly technical, Jin's students at Caboco describe him as a Science professor as he has his own formula to every technique.

Like Fang, Jin is also active in competitions around the region, to keep his game sharp and to challenge himself above all else. One of the nicest guys in the gym, but a beast on the mats!

Both of our instructors, Fang and Jin, closing the brackets at the Copa de Bangkok 2015 tournament!
